Junior Membership was created for young Lionel enthusiasts who are not old enough (18 years of age or older) to be “Regular” members of LCCA. Junior members have most of the same privileges of membership as any adult with the exception that they cannot hold office or vote in the elections each year. They also cannot purchase products from the online LCCA store, but their parents can call the LCCA Business Office and purchase products on their behalf.
Junior Members receive copies of The Lion Roars, our new, digital magazine The Lion Cub, and all Lionel Catalogs. The Lion Cub is a magazine written by Junior Members, for Junior Members. It is E-mailed to each, active Junior Member twice a year in May and December. As a Junior Member, you will also be eligible to write articles for this magazine. Think of how exciting it would be to see your article published in a real magazine!
Junior Members can also use all the features of the Club’s website, including access to our Digital Archives (e.g., digital versions of magazines such as The Lion Roars and The Lion Cub), Digital Archives (e.g., digital copies of Lionel Catalogs from 1900 to current Magazines, and Service Manuals), and attend any Club activities. Junior Members also receive an LCCA membership card, a billboard set, and three special Kid’s Club vinyl stickers that change each year!
LCCA regularly designs its own Club products manufactured by Lionel. With assistance from their parents, Kids can purchase these products through the LCCA Business Office. Shown here is an example of a set of die-cast vehicles recently released by LCCA.
Junior Members and their parents are encouraged to attend as many annual conventions and periodic Special Events as they can attend. Special Events are held throughout the year and all around the USA. They include venues such as train swap meets and visits to operating layouts. Outside the convention all registered Junior members can write an article or even send in some pictures to the Kid’s Director to have published in the Kid’s digital magazine, The Lion Cub. This is a digital publication for kids, by kids. This is how the club showcases our junior members to the rest of the club so everyone can see what our kids are up to! Kids can write articles about railroad vacations or even their layout or future layout or anything railroad related. It is encouraged that all junior members contribute to the Lion Cub! Also, if you are a first-time author, you will receive a special 3D printed plaque with your name on it! How cool is that!? The Lion Cub is published in May and December. It is sent to your email, so make sure when you register your child a valid email is added! You don’t want to miss this amazing publication!
The Kid’s club also is currently hosting a monthly free give away to three random junior members! All you have to do is make sure your membership is current to be eligible to win!
As a new, Junior Member you are entitled to participate in contests any activity that the LCCA Kid’s Club has to offer! If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Kid’s Club Director!
Each year at the convention, the LCCA hosts a Kid’s room that is open to all kids young and old that are registered for the convention. This space offers a variety of kids activities. There is a switching layout where kids can solve a “puzzle”. They have to move boxcars to different positions on a layout. It's a bit challenging but is a lot of fun! Kids and adults can even compete for the best time and accuracy during the convention week! The kid’s room even has activities for the younger ones too! From wooden push trains to coloring sheets to even watching some great train movies! There is even a corn hole game! Lots of hangs on activities for kids of all ages! There is even a prize table! Prizes range from Lionel items to custom one-of-a-kind 3D printed items only available at the convention!
Not only is there a Kid’s room there are also Modular layouts for all the see and sometimes even operate. There is a scavenger hunt with special prizes plus other activities that do change each year that your Junior member can be a part of! There is a club store where you can purchase items for your collection or layout, a puzzle room and so much more!
There are even tours you can go on as well! Come visit the convention for a day, a few days or even the whole week! You will definitely have a BLAST! If you are planning on coming to a convention for the first time, please contact the Kid’s Club director if you have questions about the convention.

We will continue to provide our Junior Members with the kinds of hands-on activities that we have been offering at our annual conventions while we develop new, exciting ideas for our Junior Members to enjoy.
For example, we are in the process of developing a better webpage for our Junior Members. It will include links to Junior Member YouTube pages where you can watch what fellow members are doing with their layouts. It will also include photographs taken by Junior Members, as well as a gallery of photos and videos taken at past conventions and Special Events. And, with the help of our junior authors, we will publish more issues of The Lion Cub each year.
Keep your eyes peeled for announcements regarding the release of these new features that are specially created exclusively for our Junior Members. Better yet, become a member of the Lionel Kids’ Club by LCCA and join the fun!
